With Laser Istanbul Clinic, your eye surgery in Istanbul is carried out by one of three named surgeons:

Treatment in Istanbul typically costs 40–70% less than private care in the UK, Ireland, Germany or the US, using the same lasers and lens brands. Your surgeon confirms the price in writing before you travel, and a personal interpreter and coordinator look after you throughout. Most patients stay 3–5 days for laser surgery and 5–7 days for lens or cataract surgery.

Meet your surgeons

The most important decision in eye surgery is the surgeon: not the city, not the size of the building and not the advert. We work with three experienced ophthalmologists only, so you always know exactly who will examine you, who will operate on you and who will check your recovery.

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Satıcı, ophthalmologist and eye surgeon in Istanbul

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Satıcı

  • Cataract and premium lens surgery
  • Laser eye surgery

Before moving to Istanbul he was Professor and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at Harran University, where he trained a generation of eye surgeons. He studied medicine at Uludağ University, completed his ophthalmology training at Dicle University and has 21 peer-reviewed papers listed on PubMed. Patients come to him most often for lens replacement with trifocal lenses, cataract surgery, laser vision correction and eyelid surgery, frequently combined in one trip.

Profile and treatments

Every surgeon reviews your scans before you book, explains the options by video call if you wish, and examines you personally in Istanbul. Every medical page on this website is reviewed by one of them.

Treatments

Every treatment starts with a full eye examination in Istanbul, including corneal topography, OCT scanning and lens-power biometry, before any decision is made. If the tests show that another treatment would suit you better, or that surgery isn't right for you, your surgeon will tell you, and you won't pay for an operation you don't need.

Laser eye surgery: LASIK, SMILE Pro, PRK and no-touch laser

    • LASIK
    • SMILE Pro
    • PRK
    • Trans-PRK

Laser eye surgery reshapes the cornea to correct short-sightedness, long-sightedness and astigmatism, usually in about 15 minutes for both eyes. Options include blade-free Femto-LASIK, the keyhole SMILE Pro method and surface treatments such as PRK and no-touch Trans-PRK for thinner corneas. Your surgeon chooses the method after measuring your eyes, never before.

Lens replacement (smart lens / RLE)

    • Trifocal lenses
    • EDOF lenses
    • Over 45

For people over 45 who are tired of reading glasses and varifocals, refractive lens exchange replaces the eye's natural lens with a premium artificial lens. Trifocal and EDOF lenses can give clear near, middle and distance vision, often without glasses. This is where the price difference with the UK and Germany is largest.

    Cataract surgery

    • Monofocal lens
    • Premium lens

Cataract surgery removes the clouded lens and replaces it with a clear one: a standard monofocal lens, or a premium lens that also reduces your need for glasses. Many UK patients come to us instead of waiting on an NHS list, or because the NHS does not offer premium lenses.

    ICL implantable lenses

For very high prescriptions or corneas too thin for laser, an ICL lens is placed inside the eye without removing any tissue. It is reversible and suits many people who have been told they are not laser candidates.

    Keratoconus, cross-linking and corneal transplant

Corneal cross-linking can stop keratoconus from getting worse; corneal ring segments and corneal transplants (DMEK, DSAEK and full-thickness grafts) treat more advanced cases. Timing matters, especially for teenagers and young adults, so an early assessment is worth it.

Your own interpreter and coordinator

Medical conversations are stressful enough in your own language. Every patient has a personal interpreter in English, Turkish, German, Arabic, Dutch, Russian, French or Spanish, and a coordinator who handles your appointments, reports and paperwork. You always know who to call, and the answer comes in your language.

Why patients travel to Istanbul for eye surgery

Experienced surgeons, the same technology, a different price.

Istanbul's experienced eye surgeons work with the laser platforms and lens brands you will find in London, Munich or Dubai: Zeiss VisuMax for SMILE, femtosecond lasers for blade-free LASIK, and premium trifocal and EDOF lenses from the major manufacturers. The difference is the cost of healthcare in Turkey, not the quality of the equipment.

Typical private prices (both eyes, 2025–26 published prices):

72.9%within 18 weeks

Shorter waits.

At the end of July 2026, 620,931 people in England were waiting for NHS eye treatment, and only 72.9% had waited less than 18 weeks against a 92% standard. The NHS also does not fund premium lenses. With us, your surgery date is agreed with your surgeon when you book, usually within a few weeks.

4 hoursfrom London

Easy to reach.

Istanbul is about 4 hours from London, 3 hours from most German and Dutch airports and 4–5 hours from the Gulf. UK, Irish, EU, US, Canadian, Saudi, UAE and Australian passport holders can visit Turkey without a visa for short stays (check the current rules for your passport before booking).

What's included in your treatment price

Your price is set per treatment by your surgeon and confirmed in writing before you travel. It normally includes:

Not included: flights, hotel and airport transfers. Hotel and transfers are a separate charge; we are happy to arrange them for you if you ask. Anything else that is not included in your case is written in your quote before you pay a deposit.
Treatment packages and prices
  • Full pre-operative eye examination and scans with your surgeon
  • Surgery by your named surgeon, including the lens or laser treatment agreed in your quote
  • Medication and eye drops for your recovery
  • Follow-up examinations in Istanbul with the same surgeon
  • A personal interpreter in your language for all appointments
  • A dedicated coordinator and remote follow-up after you return home

Why a named surgeon, not a big eye-hospital chain

Large eye-hospital chains treat thousands of patients a month, and you often meet your surgeon for the first time on the day of the operation. We work the other way round:

Big eye-hospital chain or a named surgeon? How to choose

Your safety

Good results start with the right decision.

01

Measured first

Before any treatment, your surgeon measures your cornea, lens and retina in detail and only recommends surgery if your eyes are suitable.

02

Licensed operating theatre

Your surgery takes place in a fully equipped, Ministry of Health–licensed operating theatre in Istanbul.

03

Known before you travel

Before you travel you know your surgeon's name, the address where you will be treated and your written price.

Risks, explained first. Like any surgery, eye surgery has risks. Your surgeon explains them for your case, in writing and through your interpreter, before you agree to treatment. If you are not a suitable candidate, your surgeon will tell you, even after you have travelled for the examination.

Patients from your country

We plan every trip around where you live: your currency, your flights, your home healthcare system and aftercare when you are back.

Frequently asked questions

One of our three surgeons: Prof. Dr. Ahmet Satıcı, Doç. Dr. Muhammet Derda Özer or Op. Dr. Aysan Bayram. Which one depends on your eyes. For example, keratoconus and corneal cases usually go to Doç. Dr. Özer, and lens replacement and eyelid surgery to Prof. Dr. Satıcı. You know your surgeon's name before you book, and the same surgeon examines you, operates and checks your recovery.

Laser eye surgery in Istanbul usually costs between about £1,100 and £2,700 for both eyes, depending on the method (PRK, Femto-LASIK or SMILE Pro). At Laser Istanbul Clinic, laser treatment starts from [£ price] for both eyes, including your examination, surgery, medication and check-ups (hotel and transfers are extra). Your exact price is fixed in writing by your surgeon after your free assessment.

Eye surgery in Turkey can be as safe as at home when it is done by an experienced ophthalmologist in a fully equipped operating theatre, after proper pre-operative tests. Before you book anywhere, check who your surgeon is, their qualifications and publications, where the surgery takes place, and what happens if you need help after you return home. We give you all of this in writing before you pay anything.

No single country is best. The surgeon, the technology and the aftercare matter more than the flag. For laser eye surgery abroad, Turkey is one of the most popular choices for patients from the UK, Europe and the Gulf, because it combines modern equipment, experienced surgeons and prices well below Western private clinics, only a short flight away.

Yes. Istanbul is one of the busiest centres for eye surgery in the region and treats tens of thousands of international eye patients every year. The quality depends on the surgeon you choose, which is why we only work with three named surgeons whose training and publications you can check.

Plan for 3–5 days for laser eye surgery and 5–7 days for lens replacement or cataract surgery, including your examination, surgery and follow-up checks. Complex cornea or retina treatment can take longer; your surgeon will tell you after reviewing your case.

Most patients can fly 1–3 days after laser eye surgery and about 3–7 days after lens or cataract surgery, once their surgeon has checked the eye. After some retina operations that use a gas bubble, flying is not safe for several weeks; your surgeon will plan your dates around this.

Your coordinator stays in touch after your trip, and your surgeon reviews your recovery by video at agreed intervals. If you need to be seen in person, we help you arrange it with a local optometrist or ophthalmologist and share your full surgical records. [Add your surgeons' complication and re-treatment policy here.]

No. Numbing eye drops are used, so you feel only light pressure for a few seconds while the laser works. Afterwards your eyes may feel gritty, watery or sensitive to light for a few hours after LASIK or SMILE, and for a few days after surface treatments such as PRK. Your surgeon gives you drops to keep you comfortable.

There is no strict upper age limit, but age changes which treatment is best. Laser surgery suits most people from 18 whose prescription has been stable for about a year. From the mid-40s, when reading glasses become necessary, lens replacement often gives a better and longer-lasting result, because it also corrects near vision and prevents cataract later. Your surgeon will recommend the right option after measuring your eyes.

No. A personal interpreter in your language joins every appointment, and all your documents are provided in English.
