1. What are cookies?

The lifetimes shown for Google Analytics are Google's default settings. A cookie can be deleted before it expires at any time (see section 7).
4. Do you use cookies without my consent?
No, apart from essential cookies. Essential cookies are needed to show you the website securely and to remember your cookie choice, so they are set when the page loads. Analytics, marketing and embedded-content cookies stay switched off until you choose "Accept all" or turn them on in "Cookie settings". If you choose "Reject all", or close the banner without choosing, only essential cookies are used.
5. How do we use analytics?
When you allow analytics cookies, we use {{analytics tool, e.g. Google Analytics 4}} to see how many people visit the website, which pages they read, which language they use and roughly which country they come from. We use this to improve our pages. We look at grouped figures, not at individual people.
We never send to analytics the answers you give in our online eye test or suitability quiz, your eye test result values, your prescription, your age, or anything you write in our forms. Our forms record which page you came from and, only if you have accepted cookies, the campaign link (UTM) that brought you to the website.
You can also stop Google Analytics in every website you visit by installing Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
6. Videos, maps and messaging links
Some pages show videos and maps from other companies. We load YouTube videos in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, and {{confirm: videos and maps load only after you accept embedded-content cookies or click the placeholder}}. According to YouTube, a video watched in privacy-enhanced mode is not used to personalise your YouTube experience. If you click through to YouTube or Google Maps, their own cookie and privacy policies apply.
Our WhatsApp, phone and email buttons are simple links. They do not set cookies on our website. If you use WhatsApp, WhatsApp's own privacy policy applies.
7. How do I change my cookie settings?
You can change your choice at any time: click "Cookie settings" at the bottom of any page, switch each type of cookie on or off, and save. If you withdraw consent, we stop using those cookies from that moment. Cookies already on your device stay there until they expire or you delete them in your browser.
8. How do I delete or block cookies in my browser?
Every browser lets you see, delete and block cookies, including blocking only third-party cookies or deleting all cookies when you close the browser. The help pages from each browser maker explain how:

9. What happens if I refuse or delete cookies?
You can still read every page, use the online eye test and send us a consultation request. If you block essential cookies in your browser, some parts of the website, such as the forms, may not work properly, and the cookie banner will appear again on each visit. Deleting cookies also deletes your cookie choice, so the banner will ask you again next time.
10. Changes to this cookie policy
We update this policy when we add, remove or change a service that uses cookies. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last changed.
