Lens Replacement Surgery Turkey Cost: Smart Lens Prices in Istanbul vs the UK, US and EU
The full lens replacement surgery Turkey cost picture in one place: our prices for each type of lens, exactly what the price includes and what costs extra, and how the total compares with typical published prices in the UK, the US, Germany and the Gulf. Lens replacement surgery (refractive lens exchange, RLE) with trifocal lenses typically costs about $3,400–7,000 for both eyes at published Istanbul prices, compared with roughly £6,000–£11,000 in UK private clinics and $11,000–15,000 in the US. At Laser Istanbul Clinic, lens replacement with Prof. Dr. Ahmet Satıcı starts from {{£ price}} for both eyes, including your examination, lenses, surgery, medication, check-ups and interpreter. Hotel, transfers and flights are extra.

What decides your lens replacement price?
The lens you choose decides most of the price, because the operation itself is the same for every lens. The Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth) says monofocal lenses are generally less expensive than multifocal lenses, but that lens cost varies widely. Four things move the price:
- The lens type. Monofocal lenses cost least; EDOF and trifocal lenses cost more.
- Astigmatism. If you have astigmatism, a toric version of your lens corrects it during the same operation and is priced separately in our table.
- One eye or both. Our prices are for both eyes; a single-eye price is available if your surgeon advises treating one eye only.
- What the price covers. A low headline price that leaves out scans, check-ups or later laser treatment is not cheaper in the end. That is why we quote one written price with the inclusions spelled out.
Not sure which lens suits you? The lens finder quiz gives you a starting point before your surgeon's assessment.
Laser lens replacement cost: is the laser version worth paying more for?
"Laser lens replacement" usually means femtosecond laser-assisted lens surgery, where a laser performs some of the first steps before the lens is replaced. According to the RCOphth, femtosecond lasers are costly, can increase the price of your procedure and provide no proven benefit for your vision after RLE or cataract surgery, although they may make some steps easier for the surgeon to perform consistently. Whether laser-assisted surgery is offered, and its price: {{femtosecond laser-assisted surgery: offered yes/no, and surcharge}}. Your surgeon explains whether it adds anything in your case.
Trifocal lens surgery cost compared with EDOF and toric lenses
Trifocal lens surgery cost is the figure most people compare, because trifocal lenses aim for the widest range of vision without glasses: the RCOphth reports that about four out of five patients are completely free of glasses after RLE with widely used contemporary multifocal lenses. An EDOF lens gives a smoother range with fewer halos but usually still needs reading glasses for small print. A toric lens adds astigmatism correction to either type. Each lens type has its own page:

Later costs to ask about, at home or abroad
The RCOphth says your clinic should be clear from the outset about the total cost of the procedure, and describes what UK clinics usually include:
- Follow-up and treatment of problems caused by surgery are usually included for up to 12 months.
- Laser adjustments to the focus ("touch-ups") are often needed for the best result and are normally included in the fee.
- YAG laser capsulotomy, a one-off minor laser treatment for clouding behind the new lens (posterior capsule opacification), is often needed months or years later and may be charged separately.
- Most clinics charge for new eye problems or natural prescription changes later on.
Ask every provider about all four before comparing prices. Our policy: {{laser touch-up and YAG capsulotomy policy and the period it covers}}; remote aftercare for {{aftercare period}}.

Most patients plan 5–7 days in Istanbul for lens replacement and fly home about 3–7 days after surgery, once their surgeon has checked their eyes. The NHS treatment-abroad checklist advises budgeting for exchange-rate changes, a possibly longer stay and the cost of any return trip. Our treatment cost and savings calculator adds these up for your home country.
How much is lens replacement surgery in Turkey compared with home?
At a glance: typical published prices (USD, 2025–26)
| Treatment | Istanbul (market) | UK | USA | Germany | UAE / Saudi |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Trifocal lens / RLE, both eyes | $3,400–7,000 | $8,000–14,700 | $11,000–15,000 | $6,700–10,400 | ≈$8,000–8,700 |
| Monofocal lens (cataract), per eye | $1,100–2,700 | $3,350–4,700 | $3,500–7,000 | covered by statutory insurance | $2,860–3,130 (UAE) |
Typical advertised ranges from our 2025–26 market research, not quotes. Comparing the middle of each range, trifocal lens replacement in Istanbul is about 60–67% cheaper than in the UK and about 72% cheaper than in the US. Many advertised Istanbul prices are bundles that already include a hotel and transfers. Ours do not, so you can compare the treatment cost like for like and choose your own hotel.

If you live in the UK: lens replacement cost UK vs Istanbul (GBP)
Refractive lens exchange is not available on the NHS. According to the RCOphth, surgery to correct the need for glasses or contact lenses is not an NHS procedure and is not covered by private health insurance schemes, so almost every UK patient pays the full private price. Typical published UK prices in 2026:
| Lens type | UK price per eye | UK price, both eyes | Istanbul with us, both eyes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monofocal lens | £2,500–£3,500 | £5,000–£7,000 | from {{£ price}} |
| Multifocal / premium lens | £3,450–£4,988 | £6,900–£9,976 | from {{£ price}} |
| Trifocal lens replacement (wider published range) | — | £6,000–£11,000 | from {{£ price}} |
UK clinics often quote per eye, which can make a headline price look like half the real cost of treating both eyes. Our prices are always for both eyes. NHS cataract surgery uses monofocal lenses, so even if you have a cataract, a trifocal or EDOF lens means paying privately.
If you live in Germany or elsewhere in the EU (EUR)
German statutory health insurance pays for cataract surgery with a standard lens, but not for premium lenses such as trifocal or EDOF lenses. Typical published German prices for trifocal lens replacement are about €5,800–9,000 for both eyes. Our EUR prices for both eyes: trifocal from {{€ price}}, EDOF from {{€ price}}, monofocal from {{€ price}}.
If you live in the USA (USD)
Typical published US prices for trifocal lens replacement are $11,000–15,000 for both eyes, the largest gap in our price data. The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) says Medicare and most insurers cover the standard monofocal lens used in cataract surgery, while premium lenses (multifocal, EDOF, toric and others) are usually paid out of pocket and can cost more than a thousand dollars extra. Our USD prices for both eyes: trifocal from {{$ price}}, EDOF from {{$ price}}, monofocal from {{$ price}}.
If you live in Saudi Arabia or the Gulf (SAR)
The Saudi riyal is pegged at SAR 3.75 to the US dollar, so the Gulf figure above equals roughly SAR 30,000–32,600 for trifocal lens replacement on both eyes, against about SAR 12,750–26,250 at published Istanbul prices. Unlike laser surgery, where Gulf and Istanbul prices are close, premium lens surgery is one of the main reasons Gulf patients travel to Istanbul. Our SAR prices for both eyes: trifocal from {{SAR price}}, EDOF from {{SAR price}}.
Why lens replacement is cheaper in Turkey
- Lower running costs, same lenses. Istanbul's eye surgeons implant premium trifocal and EDOF lenses from the same major manufacturers used in London, Munich or Dubai. The difference is the overall cost of healthcare in Turkey, not the lens.
- Bundled versus itemised pricing. Some prices include a hotel and transfers, some don't; some include touch-ups and YAG laser, others charge for them. Compare what is actually in the price.
- Per-eye versus both-eye quotes. A "from £2,500" UK price is per eye; most Istanbul prices are for both eyes.
- Exchange rates. If you pay in pounds, euros or dollars, currency movements change the real cost. Your quote states the currency you pay in: {{quote currency}}.
A lower price only makes sense if the essentials are the same: a named, experienced surgeon, full pre-operative measurements, a properly equipped operating theatre and a clear aftercare plan. Lens replacement is a real operation with real risks: the RCOphth puts permanent, serious loss of vision at about 1 in 500 patients, which is more common than after laser eye surgery. Your surgery takes place in a fully equipped, Ministry of Health–licensed operating theatre in Istanbul, and you know your surgeon's name before you book.

Lens replacement cost: frequently asked questions
Typical published Istanbul prices for trifocal lens replacement are about $3,400–7,000 for both eyes, and monofocal lens surgery about $1,100–2,700 per eye. With Laser Istanbul Clinic, lens replacement starts from {{£ price}} for both eyes, including your examination, lenses, surgery, medication, check-ups and interpreter. Hotel and transfers are extra, and your final price depends on the lens you choose.
Trifocal lens surgery typically costs £6,000–£11,000 for both eyes in UK private clinics, $11,000–15,000 in the US and about $3,400–7,000 at published Istanbul prices. With us, trifocal lens surgery starts from {{£ price}} for both eyes, and a toric trifocal for astigmatism from {{£ price}}.
Laser-assisted lens replacement uses a femtosecond laser for some steps and usually costs more. The RCOphth says these lasers are costly and have no proven benefit for your vision after RLE, although they may help the surgeon perform some steps consistently. {{femtosecond laser-assisted surgery: offered yes/no, and surcharge}}.
Published 2026 UK prices are about £2,500–£3,500 per eye for a monofocal lens and £3,450–£4,988 per eye for a multifocal or premium lens, so roughly £5,000–£10,000 for both eyes. Trifocal lens replacement is widely advertised at £6,000–£11,000 for both eyes.
No. The RCOphth says surgery to correct the need for glasses or contact lenses is not available on the NHS and is not covered by private health insurance. The NHS offers lens surgery mainly for cataract and sight-threatening conditions, with monofocal lenses.
Our lens replacement prices are for both eyes, with the lenses included. If you need surgery on one eye only, ask for a single-eye quote: {{single-eye price}}.
Yes, toric lenses are priced separately because they correct astigmatism as well. The AAO groups toric lenses with premium lenses that are usually paid out of pocket. Our toric prices are in the table above: monofocal toric from {{£ price}}, EDOF toric from {{£ price}} and trifocal toric from {{£ price}}.
No. Hotel and airport transfers are a separate charge, and flights are not included. We are happy to book a hotel ({{nights}} nights, from {{hotel price}}) and transfers ({{transfer price}}) if you ask, or you can arrange your own.
The RCOphth says laser touch-ups are often needed to fine-tune the focus after RLE, and that YAG laser capsulotomy, a one-off minor laser treatment for later clouding behind the lens, may be charged separately. Our policy: {{laser touch-up and YAG capsulotomy policy and the period it covers}}. Ask any provider this before comparing prices.
Only if your measurements show that a different lens suits your eyes better, and you agree before surgery. Your surgeon explains why, and the new price is confirmed in writing before treatment. If lens replacement is not suitable for you at all, you won't pay for an operation you don't need.
Yes, and tell your insurer you are travelling for treatment. The NHS advises making sure you have appropriate travel insurance and telling your insurer about planned treatment abroad, because standard policies may not cover it.
