Certificates and training

  • Hansatome microkeratome certificate (2005). The Hansatome is a mechanical microkeratome used to cut the corneal flap in LASIK; it is widely studied in LASIK research.
  • Excimer laser technology training. The excimer laser is the laser that reshapes the cornea in LASIK and PRK.

Her laser training goes back to the early years of LASIK. Today the method for your eyes (for example Femto-LASIK, SMILE Pro or PRK) is chosen only after your full examination in Istanbul.

What does Aysan Bayram treat as an eye surgeon?

As an eye surgeon, Op. Dr. Aysan Bayram focuses on three areas: cataract surgery, laser eye surgery and the diagnosis and treatment of retinal disease. Your coordinator sends your case to her when your eyes need one of these. Each link explains the treatment, who it suits, the risks and the recovery.

  • Cataract surgery. Removing the clouded natural lens and replacing it with a clear artificial lens, including toric lenses for astigmatism. Her retina experience matters if you have diabetes or a macular problem as well as a cataract, because the retina is checked and, if needed, treated as part of your plan.
  • Laser eye surgery. Laser vision correction for short-sight, long-sight and astigmatism. At Laser Istanbul Clinic, laser treatment is led by Op. Dr. Bayram and Prof. Dr. Ahmet Satıcı. Very short-sighted eyes have a higher risk of retinal detachment, according to the US National Eye Institute, which is why your retina is checked as well as your cornea before laser.
  • Retinal disease. Diagnosis and treatment of conditions at the back of the eye, such as diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration and retinal tears, together with her colleague Doç. Dr. Muhammet Derda Özer. The NHS describes diabetic retinopathy as an eye condition caused by diabetes that can lead to sight loss, and says finding and treating it early reduces that risk.

Which treatments do her colleagues usually lead?

Some treatments are led by the colleague who specialises in them. Op. Dr. Bayram reviews your file and tells you if another surgeon is the better choice.

How does Op. Dr. Bayram examine your eyes?

Every patient starts with a full eye examination, not just a measurement of their glasses prescription. In one visit, Op. Dr. Bayram checks:

  1. How well you see (visual acuity), with and without glasses.
  2. Your eye pressure, a screening check for glaucoma.
  3. Your cornea, with corneal scans, which help decide whether laser is safe.
  4. Your retina, with imaging scans where needed.

She then recommends a treatment based on your eye's own measurements. If the tests show surgery isn't right for you, she will tell you, through your interpreter if you wish.

Can I choose a female eye surgeon in Istanbul?

Yes. Op. Dr. Aysan Bayram is a female eye surgeon, and you can ask for her by name when you send your details. The same surgeon examines you, operates and checks your recovery, so you see her at every step. If you prefer a female surgeon for personal, cultural or family reasons, just tell your coordinator.
