The AAO explains that the child’s brain has learned to ignore the weaker eye. The main causes are a squint, a refractive error that is worse in one eye (anisometropia), a cataract or other cloudiness, and a droopy eyelid. Often no single cause is found.\"}},{\"@type\":\"Question\",\"name\":\"How to fix a lazy eye in adults?\",\"acceptedAnswer\":{\"@type\":\"Answer\",\"text\":\"Start with an up-to-date eye test and the right glasses, then treat any cause such as a cataract or a squint. Training programmes, perceptual learning and video games have given small average gains in studies, but treatment in adults is less effective than in children. A squint can be straightened at any age, but that does not sharpen the weak eye.\"}},{\"@type\":\"Question\",\"name\":\"Is it too late to treat a lazy eye after age 7?\",\"acceptedAnswer\":{\"@type\":\"Answer\",\"text\":\"No, but results are best before the age of 7 or 8.
